«I consider myself privileged to have witnessed, from 1974, the development of this book until its publication in 1977. Mário Cesariny had conceived the project in the early days of the Carnation Revolution in April 1974, when the long years of the repressive dictatorship finally ended . He told me about his ideas for the book in several letters and, during our regular visits, he showed me and my wife Frida the new dossiers he planned to include. In June 1977, he took us to the impressive old Império typography, on Rua do Salitre, in Lisbon, to see the proofs that were being prepared for final correction.
Texts of Affirmation and Combat of the World Surrealist Movement has truly become a totally unorthodox book and remains formidable, pioneering, urgent and pertinent even after half a century. Cesariny was not only a singular innovator of Portuguese poetry and painting, but he was brilliant in his analysis of the worldview that Surrealism had developed. Everything he touched and conceived was imbued with new life.»
Laurens Vancrevel
«The book's itinerary through chronological chapters, sometimes geographical, personal or thematic, draws the map of the labyrinth of the only real living tradition (Ernesto Sampaio dixit), where it can serve as Ariadne's thread for, forcing and controlling systematically the laws of chance, to meet the Minotaur of the obscure object of desire of each one of us and of all of us together on the path of the coincident revolution of the inner man and the outer man (in Breton's terms to refer to the dream of fusion from the dreams of Rimbaud and Marx), a revolution that has three faces: Freedom, Love, Poetry.”
