From collaborator to co-author, Eduardo Souto de Moura, the only other Portuguese architect to be awarded the renowned Pritzker Prize, explains his reasons for nominating Álvaro Siza's work for World Heritage status. In a 20th century full of universal characters, the "boy from Matosinhos" transcends (post)modernity, international borders and the very millennium in which he was born.

Eduardo Souto de Moura: One of Portugal's most renowned architects, Eduardo Souto de Moura was born in Porto on July 25, 1952, and it was also in this city that he graduated in architecture from FAUP. As a student, he worked in Álvaro Siza Vieira's studio between 1974 and 1979. The following year, he finished his degree and began working as a freelance architect. With a brilliant career, he was awarded the Pritzker Prize in 2011.
