Alexander Kluge: Politics of Emotions
Following the first retrospective exhibition by German director and filmmaker Alexander Kluge at Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira, Serralves published a bilingual book, Portuguese / English, with a selection of writings by Kluge himself, an interview between Kluge and Georges Didi-Huberman, a conversation between the author and Florian Hopf.
The publication also includes specially commissioned essays by António Preto, Director, Casa do Cinema and co-curator of the exhibition, Vincent Pauval co-curator of the exhibition, Joana Ascensão (Cinemateca Portuguesa), António Guerreiro, literary critic and author and by university professors Christian Schulte, Florian Wobser and Dario Marchiori.
This book comes essentially from his artistic project with a patent in Serralves until November 2021, which revolves around fiction, social sciences, film theory, history and television, combining the criticism of rationalism with an aesthetic of resistance.
Alexander Kluge is a writer, filmmaker and philosopher. Over the course of sixty years he produced a vast film work where very different forms and disciplinary fields intersect, in a kaleidoscopic synthesis of questions and perplexities that cross multiple fronts of his political and cultural action.
