The miniature ‘Gartenstuhl’ chair is distinguished by the use of cast iron materials by Karl Friedrich Schinkel to streamline furniture production.

A piece that, due to its miniature size and design, can be considered as a collectible furniture chair.

Industrialization, with its new manufacturing techniques and materials, began to supplant the traditional craftsmanship of the turner and woodcarver in the manufacture of furniture.

Long before Michael Thonet's first experiments with warped wood, the use of iron had already led to important innovations in this field.

It was Schinkel's architectural work in particular that earned him his reputation as one of the greatest exponents of German "classicism". However, his work as a furniture designer was also of great importance for his elegant interpretations of the classics that produced formal austerity designs for all sorts of different purposes.

Schinkel's designs included not only wooden furniture, but also, in the early 19th century, a large number of iron trestle tables, garden furniture and other furniture items.

For more than two decades, the Vitra Design Museum has produced miniature replicas of design furniture that made history and the collection of industrial furniture design. The chairs are faithful replicas with precise details.
