Júlio Pomar was a Portuguese artist/painter. He belonged to the 3rd generation of Portuguese modernist painters, being the author of a multifaceted work, centered on painting, drawing, ceramics and engraving, with important developments in the fields of three-dimensional or writing.
The first years of his career are linked to the resistance against the Estado Novo regime and the affirmation of the neorealist movement in Portugal, marking its specificity in the European context.
He had an intense artistic and civic action throughout the 1940s and 1950s and is consensually considered the most outstanding of the culturists of national neorealism.
