The exhibition "To the Arts, Citizens!" focuses on some of the intersections that art and politics, understood as action, representation or reference, manifest today.
Some issues that cross this relationship are highlighted, which can be defined through concepts such as activism, citizenship, memory, archive, emigration, exile, ideology, revolution, utopia, iconoclasm, democracy, catastrophe, community, crisis, sexuality, environment , globalization, etc.
The exhibition in Serralves was accompanied by a bilingual catalog (Portuguese and English) with unpublished essays by Peio Aguirre, Frederico Ferrari, Brian Holmes, Roberto Merrill, Sven Lütticken and Hito Steyerl, as well as an introduction by the curators, João Fernandes, director from the Serralves Museum and Óscar Faria, art critic.
It is illustrated with a selection of works by all the artists presented in other exhibition contexts.
