Marijke Van Warmerdam's monograph (Nieuwer-Amstel, The Netherlands, 1959) offers a comprehensive overview of his artistic creation covering diverse mediums, from film to photography, sculpture, installation and, more recently, painting.

Marked by a characteristic lightness, this extraordinarily consistent work combines a deceptively naive approach with simple strategies such as dramatic changes of scale, duplication, reflection, rhythmic repetition or surprising juxtapositions to force us to see.

Edited by Marenta Bloemheuvel and with unpublished texts by Fiona Bradley, Maarten Doorman, Philippe Alain Michaud and Michaela Unterdörfer, the book also includes a catalog raisonné with notes by Kees van Gelder.

This catalog was launched within the scope of the exhibition "Marijke Warmerdam: Close By In The Distance" at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art from 21 July to 14 October 2012.
