Serralves 2009: A Colecção
Unfolded into three moments and documented by a catalog also divided into two volumes, this book assumes the simultaneity of retrospectively and prospectively showing us the Serralves collection, which for the first time occupied all the museum’s exhibition spaces.
The first volume contains images of the works as well as the permanent installations in Serralves Park, and the second volume allows for a serious and critical reading with exhaustive comments on some of the works of art that were exhibited.
Special reference to the work of the American artist Dan Graham, “Double Exposure” (1995/2003), who, in the peculiar and magnificent environment of the park, designed a triangular pavilion with the possibility of being visited, creating an allegory of the memory of a place.
Quoting the artist, he says, “The design of Renaissance gardens was often derived from classical texts. One of the most influential texts was Ovid's Metamorphoses, where the natural and the artificial are reconciled in a metaphorical chain: nature imitates art and the artificial pampers the natural”.
