A single, large-scale work specifically conceived for the Serralves spaces, with a very clear autobiographic quality, will run through the whole of the exhibition spaces and the pages of this book.
A Roving Gaze includes, regardless of chronological concerns, photographs of a large selection of Cabrita Reis’s works from 1999 to the present, displayed on structures created by the artist, along with a series of objects, drawings, documents and other works, the whole generating a total installation environment in which the artist’s life and work intersect.
Miguel von Hafe Pérez has adopted the same strategy for his continuous narrative based on the (aphoristic, profound, mundane or critical) notes and the accompanying drawings he found in the artist notebooks, which were made available for the first time. This inaugural journey across the thousands of pages where, from 1977 to the present, Pedro Cabrita Reis has been recording his (written and visual) thoughts, allows for a foundational perspective of his singular work.
