This anthological publication brings together works representing an extremely productive period in the artist's work, with not only a set of fundamental works but a large number of drawings from her studio having been exhibited for the first time.

Paula Rego has always assumed an ethical commitment from her condition as an artist to the expression of revolt and indignation, questioning social life and the human condition related to the place and representation of women in society and in the history of our time.

Profusely illustrated, it is accompanied by numerous pencil drawings, Indian ink, watercolor, lithographs and engravings hitherto unknown to the public.

The catalog accompanies the anthological exhibition by Paula Rego, attentive in Serralves in 2004, curated by the director of the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, João Fernandes, and by the essayist and specialist in the author's work, Ruth Rosengarten.
