Mathieu Kleyebe Abonnenc (Paris, 1977) is particularly interested in the liberation movements of former Portuguese colonies Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau, namely in the analysis of the production of images, including illustration for educational manuals, photographic reports and propaganda films, which the 1960s and 70s translated ideas of revolution and militancy.
To accompany the exhibition in Serralves, the artist invited Filipe Abranches and Teresa da Câmara Pestana, who started from an alternative history of colonialism written by Abbonenc, to create illustrations specially designed for this book.
Includes essays by Ricardo Nicolau (exhibition curator) and Cataliza Lozano (independent curator).
