The publication “A cosmopolitan realism : The KWY group in the Serralves Collection” is the second volume of a series of publications dedicated to research and dissemination of the Serralves Foundation’s collection and published on the occasion of the homonymous exhibition at the Serralves Museum between 22 May and September 27, 2015.

The KWY group ― René Bertholo, Lourdes Castro, Christo, António Costa Pinheiro, Gonçalo Duarte, José Escada, João Vieira and Jan Voss ― and the KWY magazine (1958−64) were the protagonists of the opening of Portuguese art to the international context and the adhesion to the new figurative languages that marked the art of the 1960s, considered by many to be one of the most stimulating periods of post-war art.

Based on works and publications from the Serralves Collection, this book reconstructs the journey of the group and its members ― from Lisbon to Paris, passing through Munich ―, the collaborations with other artists and publications and their connections to international avant-garde movements.
