Life’s Turns is the third volume in the series Manoel de Oliveira and the Portuguese Cinema, a research project initiated in 2023 at the Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira that promotes an in-depth reading of the filmmaker’s work through his archive. The book focuses on the particularly fertile period between A Divina Comédia (1991) and Porto da Minha Infância (2001), bringing together documents and essays that shed light on this moment of great artistic maturity and international recognition.

Edited by António Preto and João Mário Grilo, the volume includes contributions by researchers from CineLab—Laboratory of Cinema and Philosophy (IFILNOVA)—Irene Aparício, Liliana Rosa, Marco Grosoli, Susana Nascimento Duarte, Susana Viegas and Vasco Baptista Marques—as well as invited authors Bernard Despomadères, Carlos Natálio, Clara Rowland, Daniel Ribas, Paulo Cunha and Ricardo Vieira Lisboa.
