Portuguese publication of the exhibition ⒶMO-TE by Francisco Tropa, on view at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art from November 2024 to May 2025
This publication co-published by the Serralves Foundation and the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco is the most comprehensive to date on the work of Portuguese artist Francisco Tropa, offering an insight into his diverse, multi-disciplinary practice. Tropa’s work spans sculpture, film, photography, printmaking, and performance, often incorporating references to art history, literature, and anthropology. His ability to challenge conventional boundaries between media is at the heart of his distinctive approach to art, and this book reflects that complexity. It includes texts by the exhibition curators Ricardo Nicolau (Serralves) and Célia Bernasconi (NMNM), alongside newly commissioned essays by Simone Menegoi, which provide critical perspectives on the artist’s practice. In addition, a selection of key texts and excerpts from important writings on Tropa’s work over the years offers a broader context for understanding his work.
The book also features expanded captions specially produced by Kathleen Merrill Campagnolo, who worked closely with Tropa on this project. Installation views of the works presented at both the Serralves Museum and the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco further illustrate the distinct ways in which the works were tailored for each venue, offering readers a unique perspective on the two exhibitions.
