Tarek Atoui: O Testemunho Das Águas Tarek Atoui/Waters’ Witness 01
Member Price
The catalog Waters’ Witness 01 is published on the occasion of Tarek Atoui's first solo exhibition at Serralves Museum (February — August 2022).
The exhibition Waters’ Witness is based on the ongoing project I/E Tarek Atoui initiated in 2015, in which the artist captures the sounds of port cities—Athens, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Beirut or Porto—by recording their harbours’ industrial, human, and ecological activities. For this occasion, Serralves Museum has published, with the support of Galerie Chantal Crousel, the first two volumes dedicated to this ambitious and collaborative project that seeks to explore the various ways sound can be experienced.
Together with artist/recordist Eric La Casa, Tarek Atoui intends to capture the memory of water through sounds: “in the case of Waters’ Witness these substances include voices: voices of lives at sea, lives made at sea and lives lost at sea. Voices that narrate human history”.
This publication includes a visual contribution by photographer Alexandre Guirkinger, a rich iconography with views of his solo exhibition at the Serralves Museum, and contributions by Maria-Thalia Carras et Filipa Loureiro.
