Montrage is an exhibition in book form featuring film projects by Portuguese artist Filipa César. Its central themes are memory, politics and language in relation to cinema. César uses montage to create space for a “third gaze” (Godard) from the viewer. As in her films, she does not follow linear time or a dialectical structure, allowing meaning to emerge in a crystalline space between images and words. The book includes a conversation between Filipa César and Doreen Mende, with design concept by Manuel Raeder.
