As director of the Internationales Design Zentrum in Berlin and the Centre de Création Industrielle at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Swiss critic and curator François Burkhardt played a crucial role in the international promotion of Álvaro Siza - "adopted" as a brother by his wife, the German artist and designer Linde Burkhardt. Over the past decade, the three of them have developed sculpture and ceramics exhibitions in Portugal and Italy.
François Burkhardt is a historian and critic of design and architecture. He teaches at the Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna and at the Instituto Superiore per le Industrie Artistiche in Florence. He has led the Internationales Design Zentrum in Berlin and the Centre de Création Industrielle/Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. The Swiss critic also serves as a consultant for various companies and institutions in Italy, Austria, France and Germany and has authored several publications on art, design and architecture.
