OPENINGS is the first volume of the collection “Conversas com o Arquivo Álvaro Siza”, which aims to place the work of Álvaro Siza and the materials from his archive entrusted to the Serralves Foundation in dialogue with some of the most relevant contemporary architectural practices.
An archive is not just a place of solitude and isolation, it can also be a space for dialogue and encounters. Thus, for each volume, an architect will be chosen who will select materials from the Archive, presenting them later in relation to his own work. Architect Tom Emerson is the first invited to take part in this conversation.
Tom Emerson, one of the most unique voices in contemporary European architecture, studied at the University of Bath, the Royal College of Art, London, and the University of Cambridge and in 2001 founded the architecture firm 6a architects with Stephanie Macdonald. He has taught at the Archi-tectural Association at Cambridge University and is currently Professor of Architecture at ETH Zurich.
