This third volume, with an introductory note by Francisco Pinto, covers the period from April 1974 to November 1975.

Between 1974 and 1975, multiple events determined the evolution of Portuguese society and politics. Sá Carneiro, who was ill, watched the escalation of events and dissent within the MFA with apprehension.

Portugal's political and social instability culminated on 25 November 1975 when, a few days after the kidnapping of members of the Constituent Assembly, Marxist-Leninist military and civilian forces launched a coup and brought Portugal to the brink of civil war, suffering a complete defeat.

Having just returned to active political life after convalescence, Sá Carneiro peremptorily reaffirmed that his fight for full democracy was opposed to any form of dictatorial regime.
