Founded in 1824, Fábrica de Porcelana da Vista Alegre was the first industrial unit dedicated to the production of porcelain in Portugal. For the success of this industrial undertaking, the spirit and persistence of the founder José Ferreira Pinto Basto, a prominent figure in Portuguese society in the 19th century, an audacious agricultural owner and merchant, were important.
