With this bottle, you can turn a clear liqueur into Bourbon. The wood chips inside the bottle come from crushed American Bourbon barrels that have been used to make Bourbon for decades. Although the shavings are small, they still contain a lot of the sweet flavor of Bourbon. This flavor will be released after adding a clear liqueur, as if you were aging your liqueur in a Bourbon barrel.
1 Adding liqueur
Start by adding a clear liqueur, such as Vodka or Dry Gin. Always make sure that the liqueur contains at least 30% alcohol. Don't add Bourbon or Whisky, as it will hardly have any effect. On the label, write the date of the bottle and the type of liqueur you used. If possible, try to use leftover liqueur you have at home.
2 The ageing process
Once you have filled the bottle, leave it to age in a cool, dark place. The wood chips will slowly begin to release their sweet bourbon flavor and warm color. Don't hesitate to taste it from time to time to experience how the flavors develop over time. This process takes about eight weeks, but don't hesitate to find out what happens if you let it age longer.
3 Serve your own whisky
After eight weeks, it's time to serve your own Bourbon. Filter or pour the liquor carefully before drinking it. Make sure you don't get any of the wood chips in your glass. Also, never eat the wood chips.
