Miniature Knotted Chair, Vitra
The Knotted Chair is made of knotted netting soaked in artificial resin and simply hung to dry.
A highly expressive seat, as fragile, transparent and light as a hammock, but as solid as a seat should be.
The use of simple knotted ropes gives the Knotted Chair that extra warm and personal feel.
The design is based on three innovations, namely, the process of hardening a fabric so that it can serve as a building element, becoming part of the structure of a three-dimensional product; the use of knot techniques to create curved, solid surfaces and structures; and the manufacture of an industrial plastic product without the use of a mold, but simply using gravity and artificial resin as a hardening agent.
These innovations are important points in determining the quality of the chair.
For more than two decades, the Vitra Design Museum has produced miniature replicas of design furniture that made history and the collection of industrial furniture design. The chairs are faithful replicas with precise details.
