Lourdes de Castro is a Portuguese plastic artist who was born on December 9, 1930 in Funchal. She attended the "Escola Alemã" in the 1930s and completed her academic education at the "Escola Superior de Belas-Artes" in Lisbon in 1956.
She exhibited individually for the first time in 1955, in Funchal, also participating in some group exhibitions in Lisbon. She leaves for Munich in 1957, and shortly thereafter settles in Paris with René Bertholo. In 1958, together with René Bertholo, Costa Pinheiro, João Vieira, José Escada, Gonçalo Duarte, Jan Voss and Christo, she founded the KWY group.
