CD Manoel Sensible Soccers 2021
The album “Manoel” by Sensible Soccers, is the 4th album and successor to “Aurora”, which was born from the desire to compose a soundtrack for two films by Manoel de Oliveira: “Douro, Faina Fluvial”, 1931, the first film by Manoel de Oliveira, together with the film "O painter ea cidade", 1956.
“Cantiga da Ponte” is the opening theme of “Manoel”, and was created to continue the opening excerpt “Douro Faina Fluvial”, Manoel de Oliveira's first film, in which it portrays a visual poem centered on the Douro River with the Ponte D.Luís in the main role.
Sensible Soccers, in the theme “Cantiga da Ponte”, bring emblematic elements from the last album, such as the transmuted bass or the percussions.
They leave behind instrument emulations and give way to a piano, transverse flutes and saxophones. In this way, it takes the form of a rhyme, lacy, nostalgic and emotional, with a touch of exchange and an almost erudite flavor.
The project becomes more ambitious when they are confronted with the special relationship between “Douro, Faina Fluvial” and “O Pintor ea Cidade” (1956), completely antagonistic films, in which the second works as a negation of the first, separated by twenty-five years and united by the city of Porto printed on them.
Seeing the two films afterwards made us draw a journey into two distinct pasts, an impactful and emotional memory exercise, an invitation to reflect on the identity and development of the city up to our days.
Sensible Soccers, is a Portuguese band, from a coastal city in the north of Portugal, known mainly for instrumental music, hypnotics and a sweet interaction with the audience.
