This publication presents an exhibition of paintings and works on paper by Oscar Murillo, marking the artist's first solo presentation in Asia.

Colombian artist Oscar Murillo, born in London, is known for an inventive practice that encompasses paintings, works on paper, installations, actions, live events, collaborative projects, and videos. Collectively, his work demonstrates a sustained emphasis on the notion of cultural exchange and the multiple forms in which ideas, languages, and even everyday objects are displaced, circulated, and increasingly blended. In recent years, Murillo has traveled extensively around the world to research and prepare exhibitions and other projects, conducting work both in the studio and in unexpected locations. Thus, airplanes, allowing more or less free movement without having to acknowledge borders, and the contemplative isolation provided by these long journeys, have become significant production sites for the artist. His large-scale canvases, in turn, are a synthesis, both in form and content, of his experiences. By combining personal allusions with more universally recognizable references, Murillo aligns these paintings with earlier historical art movements that conceptualized art not as a hermetic language but as a critical tool to interpret the world outside of itself, understanding, as he observes, "an accumulation of thought, gesture, discourse, action, and movement."
