The Pequi Tree Tote Bag is a practical accessory that refers to a more sustainable lifestyle where you can take your belongings and Ai Weiwei's art wherever you go.
The development process of this Tote Bag was inspired by Ai Weiwei's most recent work, in cast iron and measuring 32 meters in height, the Pequi Tree, presented for the very first time at the Serralves facilities.
Given the artist's activist nature in environmental issues, this accessory was carefully developed in an organic material without any type of plastic in its composition, made from environmentally friendly paints and with 100% Portuguese production.
Ai Weiwei (Beijing, 1957) is an artist, thinker and activist whose artistic practice addresses pressing issues of our time. He is one of the leading cultural figures of his generation and an example of free speech in China and internationally.
The exhibition Entrelaçar/Intertwine by Ai Weiwei, on display in Serralves from July 2021 to June 2022, reflects the artist's concern for the environment and the deforestation of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, in particular.
