This issue explores the work of artist Ai Weiwei through his favorite themes: Antiquity and Contemporary, East-West Relations, Conservation and Destruction.

The issue also features a series of previously unpublished works made of rust, an important interview by Hans Ulrich Obrist, an essay by art historian Ingrid Rowland on the artist and his connection to archeology, an archival reproduction of Art Books on Antiquities Chinese art and with the presentation of the most beautiful pieces of jade and textile collections collected by Ai Weiwei, a tribute to the artist's father, the famous writer Ai Qing, a text by collector Uli Sigg, and also a presentation of works and projects by Andrea Eriksson, Jonya Ishigami and Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian.

Ai Weiwei (Beijing, 1957) is an artist, thinker and activist whose artistic practice addresses pressing issues of our time. He is one of the leading cultural figures of his generation and an example of freedom of expression in China and internationally. The exhibition Entrelaçar/Intertwine by Ai Weiwei, shown in Serralves from July 2021 to June 2022 reflects the artist's concern with the environment and with the deforestation of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, in particular.
