Je t'aime, 2005 is a work by Louise Bourgeois consisting of 60 drawings. Part of the exhibition "To Unravel a Torment", Louise Bourgeois, on display at the Serralves Foundation from December 2020 to January 2022.
Louise Bourgeois, was one of the most iconic artists in the history of art for much of the 20th and early 21st centuries.
The artist focused mainly on sculpture, creating biomorphic forms and the early use of unconventional materials that allude to a tension between essentially masculine and feminine forms.
The recurring interrogation of the male/female dialectic aligns Bourgeois with the feminist movement.
The geometric shapes had a calming and meditative effect on the artist: their possibilities and repetition had a therapeutic power, just like the reticulated compositions. Having suffered from insomnia all her life, the artist often spent her sleepless hours drawing, working both during the day and at night.
