First volume in the series entitled THE IDEA OF ÁLVARO SIZA, involving the selection of several works by the architect who is an essential reference for the history of contemporary architecture. This project has been accompanied by the editor of scopio and coordinator of the research project Visual Spaces of Change, a transdisciplinary research project with a significant component of Contemporary Photography funded by the FCT.

This collaboration has allowed the exchange of impressions and ideas about the visual strategies that photographers adopt, as well as about the various core characteristics that assist Álvaro Siza's works and which are intended to be revealed in a different way through photography. scopionewspaper is a periodical publication whose interest is, in general terms, the universe of Architecture, Art and Image (AAI) and, in specific terms, the study of Contemporary Photography as an instrument of investigation and expression linked to Architecture, City and Territory. This publication is structured around major themes that can integrate different lines of research and related projects, as is the case with other periodical publications by Edições scopio.

Visual Spaces of Change (VSC) is an interdisciplinary project that combines contemporary photography and visual documentation with georeferencing and new technologies. This project investigates the creation of a network of public and collective spaces capable of catalyzing emerging dynamics of urban change in the Porto Metropolitan Area (AMP). VSC materializes through the operationalization of a curatorial project associated with a set of activities that cross the universes of photography and editorial in two complementary strands: (i) Exhibition of contemporary photography projects (CPP) communicated through video projection and photography in various public spaces and collective use located in the Metropolitan Area of ​​Porto (AMP), and (ii) Exhibition of alternative publications for the dissemination of authors and works with a particular focus on Architecture, City and Territory Photography. 

Álvaro Siza is one of the main architects of the 20th century, and one of the names with which Portugal is associated in any part of the world, winner of the Pritzker Prize, in 1992. In 1991, Álvaro Siza was invited to design the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, which he opened in 1999. In 2109 he completed the architectural project for the Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira and in 2021 the restoration and adaptation of the Casa de Serralves. Maintaining, until today, a collaborative relationship with the institution and its programming.
