DVD Álvaro Siza
Álvaro Siza Vieira comments and explains 18 museums and exhibition spaces that he designed, one by one, on the DVD released in a partnership between the Serralves Foundation and the PÚBLICO newspaper.
The exhibition that gave rise to the DVD focuses on the evolution of the spatial concept of the Museum in Siza's architectural work, intersecting with the presentation of his Imaginary Museum of Architecture, through the presentation of other projects for spaces in galleries and museums chosen by architect himself.
The first part of the DVD (46 minutes) includes Siza's explanations about his projects, in a filmed interview, accompanied by images taken in the places or by the exhibition of drawings or sketches. In another film, Virtual Images (22 minutes), virtual simulations are shown, in 3D and views from various angles, of eight unbuilt projects. A third film (Serralves Museum: Obra no Tosco) shows in seven minutes the museum to be built, the cement structure rising in the park's greenery.
Álvaro Siza is one of the most emblematic architects of the 20th century, and one of the names with which Portugal is associated in any part of the world, winner of the Pritzker Prize in 1992. It was in 1991 that Álvaro Siza was invited to design the Museum of Art Contemporary by Serralves, which opened in 1999.
In 2019, he completed the architectural project for the Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira and in 2021 the restoration and adaptation of the Casa de Serralves. Maintaining, until today, a collaborative relationship with the institution and its programming.
