Mathieu Kleyebe Abonnenc - To Whom Who Keeps a Record

Matthieu Kleyebe Abonnenc (Paris, 1977) has a particular interest in the liberation movements of the former Portuguese colonies, namely Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau, as well as in the analysis of image production, including illustrations for education manuals, photographic reportage and propaganda films that translated ideas of revolution and militancy in the 1960 and 70s. To accompany his exhibition at Serralves, the artist invited Filipe Abranches and Teresa da Câmara Pestana who took an alternative view on colonialism written by Abbonenc to produce especially commissioned illustrations for this book. It also includes essays by Ricardo Nicolau (curator of the exhibition) and Catalina Lozano (independent curator).
